Sermon 09/21/2025

From September 21, 2025 Sermon – Genesis 19:23-29

This week’s sermon from Genesis 19 tried to not look away from a gut-wrenching passage showing how pervasive sin is.  But it also tried to show how astounding the grace of God in Christ is.  Use the following questions to reflect on what that means within the sphere of our life together:

1) What are some ways that grace gets derailed in a group of Christians?  Why might that happen?

2) Consider the place of truth-telling in becoming a community of grace.  How important is telling the truth for receiving grace?  How does the manner in which the truth is told affect how (or if) grace is received?  It may be helpful to consider Jesus’ interactions with “tax collectors and sinners” in the Gospel accounts.

3) What sins of our community (both in the sense of Siloam and in the sense of First Presbyterian Church) need grace?

4) How can we, as a congregation and as smaller pockets within our congregation, cultivate an atmosphere of grace?  Try to paint some pictures together of what that could look like.  What steps would lead to that picture?  What steps will you take this week?
