A Word From…

Outreach

This month, we are committing as a church to praying for our community. From today – October 30, use the prayer prompts from Navigators “30 Days of Praying Through Your Neighborhood” as a guide while walking and praying through your own neighborhood. You can sign up to receive the daily prompt via text or email, pick up a printed version of the guide at the church entrances, or simply follow the prayer guide online here: 30 Days of Praying Through Your Neighborhood.

October is an ideal time for a prayer walking initiative…especially one that is focused on our neighbors. The month kick starts the Fall season with cool mornings and evenings. Peak walking weather. And October 31 is probably the only day of the year that you could have dozens of strangers show up at your front door…what an opportunity to spend a full month praying for the children that solicit candy from you on Halloween!

I hope you will join with First Pres this month in praying for your neighborhood and our community. We want this to be an inclusive invitation for all, so for those of you that live outside of town and not in a traditional neighborhood, or those that might not have the physical ability to walk their neighborhood daily, here are a couple suggestions. Consider a virtual prayer walk by praying through Google Maps. Pull up a neighborhood in our community on a map and pray for the businesses, homes, schools, etc. and let the prayer prompts be your guide. Or if you find yourself out-of-town living among more livestock than people, you have an open invitation to park at the church and use our church facility as a jumping off point as you pray for our church’s neighborhood. So throughout this month, take time to WALK, PRAY, PAY ATTENTION, and LISTEN.

A few other Outreach items of note in the coming months…we will not lack for opportunities to be the hands and feet of Jesus to Siloam Springs over the next few months. We’ll host our annual Trunk-or-Treat on Friday, October 31 to cap off our neighborhood prayer initiative. We will need candy donations, people to help prepare/serve hot dogs and drinks, and of course we’ll need several decorated trunks for candy distribution! We’ll also have several opportunities to meet the tangible needs of our community. Bright Futures will be collecting coats for children in our community. Manna Center will collect Thanksgiving food bags, and we’ll have another 5th Sunday food drive for the Manna Center on November 30. And finally, the Angel Tree in December will be an opportunity for the people of First Pres to provide a little extra joy for several families in need this Christmas.
